- How do I calculate my grade with weighted categories?
- Multiply each category's weight by the percentage you scored in it, add those up, and divide by the weight that has actually been graded so far. That last step is the one most calculators skip — measuring against the whole course in week two reads as an F when nothing has come back yet.
- What do I need on the final to get an A?
- Subtract what you have already banked from the grade you want, then divide by the weight still outstanding. If the final is the only thing left, that number is your score on the final. If it is not, it is an average across everything left — and treating it as one exam score is how people end up short.
- My syllabus grades on points, not percentages. Does that work?
- Switch to Points. Every percentage then describes the work you have listed, not the whole term — a points course never declares its total, so nobody, including us, can honestly turn a partial list into a final grade.
- Do my weights have to add up to 100?
- They should, and this page will tell you when they do not. Nothing is normalised behind your back: weights that do not add up mean the syllabus is incomplete or was read wrong, and quietly rescaling them hides the one thing worth knowing.
- Is anything I type here saved?
- No. The arithmetic runs in your browser and nothing leaves it. There is no account on this page and no row written anywhere.
